The size problem, plainly

A Hip Carrier gift can go wrong on fit. The Hip Carrier fits waists from 23 to 44 inches, and if the waistband is too loose, too low, or Velcro is still exposed after closing, it will not feel right. Guessing a waist size for someone else, especially as a Christmas surprise, is how a good gift becomes a return.

You have three safe options, in order from safest to least safe.

Option 1: a gift card, the safest gift

Tushbaby gift cards are listed at $25 to $500 on the all items page on November 4, 2026. A gift card needs no size, no color choice, and no carrier choice. The recipient picks their own carrier, their own color, and their own fit, and you do not have to guess any of it. If you are buying for a new parent you do not know well, or for a grandparent, a gift card is the kindest option, because it cannot be the wrong size.

Option 2: a small accessory, no size needed

The Pod, listed at $8 to $19, the Changing Pad, listed at $12 to $17.50, and the Crossbody Strap, listed at $12 to $28, all need no waist size. The Accessories Gift Set, listed at $28 with savings up to 20 percent, gives all three together. These are safe as a standalone small gift, or as a gift to add to a gift card, so the recipient still has something to open on Christmas morning.

Option 3: a Hip Carrier, plus an extender, as insurance

If you want to give an actual carrier, not a card, add the waistband extender. The extender adds 23 inches, to a total of up to 70 inches, so it covers a much wider range of waists and layers than the carrier alone. Tell the recipient to fit it high and tight over the clothes they are actually wearing, and to refit if they change layers. If you are buying for two caregivers of very different sizes, an extender also lets both of them share one carrier, instead of needing two.

Do not buy a Pearl Wrap as a surprise without knowing the baby stage. The Pearl is 8 to 20 lbs, facing inward only, and it is a newborn carrier. If the baby is already past 20 lbs, or past the newborn stage, the Pearl will not fit the job, no matter how good the gift idea was.
