The fit rule, in one sentence

Wear it high and tight around your true waist, above your natural waist, not low on your hips.

That one rule fixes most fit complaints. Worn low, the seat slides, the weight pulls, and the waistband feels unstable. Worn high and tight, the weight sits at your waist, the seat feels secure, and your arms get the break you bought it for.

Do you need the extender?

Get the extender if any of these are true: your waist is close to 44 inches, the waistband barely closes, Velcro is still exposed after you close it, shirts snag on exposed Velcro, or you want to share the carrier with a larger caregiver. One widely reported tip from parents is that size 14 or 16 and up, or anyone close to the top of the range, should consider the extender from the start, rather than discovering snagged shirts later.

The extender also helps in winter, over layers, and when two caregivers of very different sizes share one carrier. With a quick Velcro and clip, a petite mom, a larger dad, and a grandparent can all use the same seat, with a fit adjustment each time.

How to put it on, step by step

  1. Wrap the waist strap around your waist, high and tight, above your natural waist.
  2. Loop the buckle through the safety elastic loop, clip the buckle, and engage the safety lock.
  3. Place your baby on the seat and keep one hand on them at all times, for hip seat use.
  4. Check that Velcro is fully covered, the seat is level, and your baby is close enough to kiss, chin off chest.

If Velcro is still exposed, or if the seat slips, stop and refit. Do not force a fit that is barely closed. That is exactly when the extender is the right buy.

Care and washing

For the hip carrier, remove the plastic insert, empty the storage pockets, wash on cold, and lay flat to dry. For the Snug, machine wash cold on a delicate cycle and lay flat to dry. For the Pearl, machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and lay flat to dry. Vegan leather versions are wipe down or spot clean only, so check your exact material before you wash.
